LIFE
I looked ahead along life’s path,
And thought I saw the end
A long, long way in the distance
With never a turn or a bend.
So light of heart I walked along
That straight and joyous way
Living my life to the very full,
Enjoying each sunlit day.

A simple heart was mine when I
Had thought life’s path was straight
For the ‘end’ I’d seen, was a hurdle,
A high and spike topped gate.
And oh the strength and courage
it took to climb to the top.
And oh the relief and pleasure felt
When I made the downward drop.
Down to the straight firm path again
With a clear way stretching on,
And my heart was light and joyful
For I thought life’s trial was done.

Oh what a simple heart was mine
when that thought passed through my mind.
Yes, I’d overcome a hurdle of life,
But the first one of its kind.
For the next one was even harder to climb
And harder to forget.
And still life’s path is stretching ahead,
With more hurdles to overcome yet.

It’s with hope and faith that I journey now
And the sun shines high above.
And the distant hurdles look smaller now
As I walk hand in hand, with love.
